Secluded spot in the Preserve [afternoon]

After the weirdness of the morning, Ben was glad that he and Tahiri had agreed to go for a picnic far, far away from everyone else.

Off the island entirely would have suited him just fine, really.

Ben set a blanket on the ground along with more food than should be necessary even for him, then shucked off his cloak, sat down, closed his eyes and tried to meditate.

It wasn't really going well.

"Yeah," Ben said. "Are you okay?"

"My head hurts a little, but I'll be fine. Stupid trees. And a picnic sounded like such a good idea," she grumbled. Not that they'd touched the food. Tahiri reached out to touch Ben's cheek. "You're okay too, right?"

"I'm going to have a lump on my head the size of a small forest moon, but I'm mostly just embarrassed," he said, looking into her eyes. "You're sure you're okay?" His hands slid down her arms to check for himself.

His eyes were so fascinating. "I'm here. You're here. We're both --" Not fully clothed at the moment. Shh. "Still alive. I'm sure, I really am."

He gave the tree a good Force-shove out of their way and bit down on his lip--hard--as the headache that gave him threatened to take the back of his skull off.

"You better be okay," Tahiri said instantly, noticing his reaction. And now that the tree was out of the way she could sit up again -- which, ow. That hurt too.

"Just not a good idea to use the Force right then," he admitted with a tiny wince as he sat up as well. "Well. That was...different."

Tahiri leaned over to kiss his forehead. "No kidding. Um . . ." She glanced down at her jumpsuit and started to button it back up. "It was nice? Until the tree."

Ben looked a little woebegone as the skin disappeared. "Yeah, the tree was...unexpected."

Because most people plan for forestry to come crashing down, clearly.

She gave him an apologetic smile, and left the top three buttons undone -- the top one had fallen off in the end, anyway. Besides, it was still warm out here.

"I didn't even see that coming. You'd think we would've sensed it."

"We were a little busy," Ben said, running his fingers across the back of her hand. "I wasn't thinking of anything but you."

For given definition of "thinking".

Tahiri inhaled sharply -- he was just touching her hand, it shouldn't be that big a deal, and yet. She scooted a little closer to very gingerly lean her head against his shoulder. "There was thinking?"

"Some?" he admitted sheepishly, feeling where she was touching him with every nerve.

It was almost overwhelming.

"I don't remember any of it. I blame the tree." Tahiri swallowed. "Ben? Why is it so kriffing warm?"

"I don't know," he said, sliding his arm around her waist, "but it probably explains all of the stuff I'm picking up that I really didn't need to know about the other people on the island."

"You probably have it worse than me. But wow, being in my room is uncomfortable," Tahiri admitted. They should probably get up and go somewhere where trees weren't likely to fall on them again, but that would mean moving, and she liked where she was just fine, thanks.

"I tried the roof this morning. It didn't help," he said.

At alllllll.

Not really, noooooooo.

"I'd say we should stay out here, or something, but . . ." She gestured vaguely. "Trees."

There were still a lot more standing, after all.

"We could move to the beach," he suggested with a tiny smile, leaning in to nuzzle her neck.

"Sand every -- oh." Tahiri's attempt to object? A little derailed by what he was doing to her neck.

Trees, Ben. Trees.

"More comfortable than the rocks," he murmured, still nuzzling.

If he was going to keep doing that, she was going to wrap her arms around his waist. "Good point. Plus there's the blanket."

This was leading down the path of how they'd ended up getting hit in the head once already, wasn't it?

"See? We're very smart," he said, nipping down again.

All evidence to the contrary should be ignored, apparently.

"Wow," Tahiri blurted out, "I really like it when you do that."

Still not moving, fallen trees and the mess that had been their picnic notwithstanding. Yeah, they were really smart. Really.

"Noted," Ben said, voice a little hoarse, before he repeated the motion.
