Outside Jacen's hotel suite [late afternoon]

Ben trotted down the hallway, nervously running his hands through his hair. Jacen would be leaving soon and Ben wanted to be there on time to hear his cousin's assessment of the island.

It being Jacen, he hadn't told Ben exactly when he was leaving, of course. Ben hoped he was still in time. He reached the door slightly out of breath and reached out with the Force to see if anyone was inside.

[For the two people in the room, mwahaha.]

"He suspects something," Jacen said, his voice low and honest as he paced the living area of the suite.

"There is a surprisingly high concentration of Jedi on the island," Lumiya remarked from where she lurked in the corner, packing up a few of her spare replacement mechanics (one never knew, after all). "And he is young, and impressionable."

"He talks to the others," Jacen added, not liking what he'd heard this weekend. "It won't be long before the Skywalkers suspect something. Even after your little subterfuge."

[identity profile] darksidecyborg.livejournal.com 2008-10-26 10:26 pm (UTC)(link)
"It seems he wasn't pleased to find you were here in Luke and Mara's stead," noted Lumiya. "Hardly an auspicious sign -- but has he talked to them?"

[identity profile] darth-tool.livejournal.com 2008-10-26 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
"No," Jacen shook his head, leaning to check the curtain was fully drawn. "Luckily his anger stops him. Our grandfather may be a problem."

[identity profile] darksidecyborg.livejournal.com 2008-10-26 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Lumiya turned to look at him now, her gaze flat. "I did notice a . . . confrontation, yes. I take it you learned nothing beneficial from him."

[identity profile] darth-tool.livejournal.com 2008-10-26 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
"Nothing," Jacen agreed crankily. "It's no wonder he was killed aboard the Death Star. He's as weak and obsessed with his family as ever."

[identity profile] darksidecyborg.livejournal.com 2008-10-26 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
"Disappointing. The new Sith Order would have benefited from his knowledge," Lumiya said disdainfully. "You, at least, have learned better than to let family dissuade you. The question, now, is whether Ben can do the same."

[identity profile] darth-tool.livejournal.com 2008-10-26 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
"You don't think he's capable," Jacen replied. "Despite his closeness with the other Jedi here, my belief holds firm."

[identity profile] darksidecyborg.livejournal.com 2008-10-27 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
"This world is not ours, Jacen," Lumiya answered. "It would be easy for someone like Ben to succumb to the idea that the teachings of the Sith are extreme, when it is so easy to ignore the harsher parts of reality in a place like this. That, combined with his friendship with the other Jedi, is cause for concern."

Pausing thoughtfully, Jacen considered her words. "He needs to return home. Perhaps his parents could be convinced of this."

[identity profile] darksidecyborg.livejournal.com 2008-10-27 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
"Mara did say you were a good influence on him, after all," Lumiya remarked. "And an apprentice does need to learn from his master."

[identity profile] darth-tool.livejournal.com 2008-10-27 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
"Yes, I'm sure she'll see there's nothing for him to learn here when I tell her about the former Darth Vader wandering campus and teaching a course on Ethical behavior," Jacen mused, quite pleased with himself.

[identity profile] darksidecyborg.livejournal.com 2008-10-27 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
"Ethical behavior?" repeated Lumiya. Apparently that reaction was universal.

[identity profile] darth-tool.livejournal.com 2008-10-27 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
"I think it's supposed to be ironic somehow," Jacen replied. "Someone should let them in on how he slaughtered children in the name of saving his wife."

[identity profile] darksidecyborg.livejournal.com 2008-10-27 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
"And they say we are in the wrong," Lumiya scoffed.

[identity profile] darth-tool.livejournal.com 2008-10-27 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
"Now we need to solve the real problem," Jacen said, still no closer to deciphering what sacrifice he needed to make. Clearly his lack of feelings for even this younger Jaina made her and his parents poor candidates. But Ben...

[identity profile] darksidecyborg.livejournal.com 2008-10-27 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
"Are you thinking he may be the one?" asked Lumiya, following his meaning.

[identity profile] darth-tool.livejournal.com 2008-10-27 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
He really did. If only so it couldn't be Tenel Ka or Allanna. And it would be so easy to do while Ben trusted him. "Unfortunately."

[identity profile] darksidecyborg.livejournal.com 2008-10-27 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
She noted the apparent lack of hesitation and nodded in approval. "Another reason to try and bring him home, then."

[identity profile] darth-tool.livejournal.com 2008-10-27 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
Jacen nodded. Finding a new apprentice was going to be difficult. "Yes, Lumiya."
