Ye Olde Preserve [after Flight Club]

Ben had missed the clarity that came from fighting something that wasn't somehow linked back to the reeking mess that his family had become.

These things...were just reeking messes. He planted his feet, ignited his lightsaber, and began storing away the insults the harpies were shrieking.

"This is going to be fun," he said, grinning over at Tahiri.

Ben had a strange idea of fun.

Tahiri unhooked her lightsaber from her belt and powered it on. "Oh, yeah," she agreed, and dodged a flung clump of something she wasn't going to think too much about.

"You can still go back for shoes," Ben teased, reaching out with his left hand to direct whatever was being thrown at him back to the harpy throwing it.

She wasn't happy at all with that result.

Tahiri gave him a disgusted look that had nothing to do with flying harpy droppings.

"Ugh, no, I'll take my chances," she said, and waved a hand to send a grapefruit-sized rock careening toward another harpy, who shrieked something very colorful in response and started to dive.

"Rock throwing does come in handy," Ben said, sweeping his lightsaber towards a harpy careening at him. "Dad will be thrilled."

"Sometimes --" Tahiri ducked an outstretched set of harpy talons and slashed up with her lightsaber, then reached out to Force-shove the harpy away. "It's actually more useful than you'd think."

Ben gave Tahiri's harpy another shove for good measure before spinning and slicing his harpy's wing off neatly at the joint.

"There's always something heavy to throw," he agreed. "Unless you're in a cell, of course."

"I had it," Tahiri protested from somewhere in the middle of a roll that brought her up under the harpy in a good position to run her lightsaber through its throat. "Tell me you're not speaking from experience there."

"Sorry," Ben apologized, poking his lightsaber through the eye of the next harpy that attacked him. Gross, Ben. "And no, that's just from Dad's stories."

"Let's hope it stays that way." Tahiri Force-hurled a fallen tree branch into a harpy -- ew, she hadn't meant to impale it -- and yelped as she had to jump out of the way of a dead harpy who'd just lost the battle with gravity as well as life.

"Nice shot," Ben said approvingly as he moved out of the way of some falling...well, something he wasn't going to look at too closely, no. "I try to stay out of trouble."

On a scale of Skywalker's definition of trouble, anyway.

Tahiri made a disgusted noise as something kind of gooey splashed the side of her neck. She wasn't going to look. "Hi, I know your family."

"I'm not very good at staying out of trouble?" he tried.

"See, now, that I'll believe," Tahiri assured him, uppercutting at a divebombing harpy.

Ben dove to the ground (ewwww, whatever he'd landed in was nasty), and then rolled over to bring his lightsaber through the stomach of another harpy.

"So, what's the verdict?" he asked. "Better than bowling?"

"Definitely messier." Tahiri stuck out a hand and sent a harpy's thrown -- was that an egg? Apparently, since it splattered when she sent it back. "Fun, but I don't think I'm kissing you until after you get a shower."

She was not exactly a paragon of cleanliness herself at the moment. This flightsuit might have to get burned later.

Ben wrinkled up his nose at her and wiped her arm across his forehead.

That didn't improve anything.

"I didn't want to be kissed anyway," he said.

Tahiri gave him a look. "Uh huh -- yipes, look out!"

Ben hit the dirt again. "Stang!"

"Hey!" Tahiri swung wildly at the harpy and thought she scored a minor hit, but ended up diving to the ground next to Ben when another one came in low and snapped at her with its beak.

"I'm getting tired of these," Ben complained, rolling onto his back and shoving his lightsaber through the harpy's head.

Which could've been planned better, as the harpy then landed on top of him.

"Ick."

"Ew," Tahiri groaned; that was more up close and personal with a dead harpy than she wanted to get, and she shoved at it with her hands and the Force, because gross. "I've smelled better things than this, lots of times."

"I'm willing to bet Dad smelled better than this coming out of a taun-taun," Ben bitched.

If Tahiri had been a mess before she hit the ground, she was a disaster zone now as she got back to her feet and reached out to help Ben up. "This might be the worst smelling thing ever in my book right now."

It wasn't, in the grand scheme of things, but at the moment? Yes. Definitely.

Ben looked up at the sky. "Leave some for other people?" he suggested. "Hit the showers before we smell like this forever?"

"We can't have all the fun, can we?" Tahiri agreed, still looking pretty thoroughly disgusted. "I am definitely burning these clothes later."
